Hey, we’re Amite. And we’re here to fix one of the most painful parts of HR

It started with a problem
Over 25 years ago, our MD Paul founded Paydata, a reward management consultancy.
Every year, he'd work with HR teams during pay review season and notice the same thing: really capable people getting stressed out by terrible processes.
It wasn't that these teams were bad at their jobs. They were dealing with hundreds of bloated spreadsheets, broken formulas, and that one person who always seemed to be the only one who knew how everything worked.
Paul kept thinking there had to be a better way than manually wrestling with Excel for weeks on end. But the options at that time were pretty limited: either struggle through it yourself, or hire consultants to take it off your hands entirely.
Then one day, a frustrated Paydata client asked the obvious question, "Could you build us something to fix this?"
So he did.
The breakthrough moment
The first version of PAYreview launched in 2008, and honestly, it was pretty simple.
Just an Access database that could read spreadsheets, crunch the data, and email updated versions back to line managers. It was built for that one client, and it wasn't trying to change the world.
But here's the thing - it worked. And what used to take their HR team days of manual slog now happened in minutes.
When other HR teams saw it in action, the reaction was instant: "Can you make one for us too?"
That's when we realised this wasn't just a one-off fix for a single company. There were probably thousands of HR teams out there dealing with the exact same headaches, all thinking they just had to live with it.
Maybe they didn't.
How we got here
PAYreview has come a long way since those early Access database days, but the core idea hasn't changed: build something that actually works and doesn't make people hate their jobs.
To support its growth, Paul set up Amite as a sister company to Paydata, focused entirely on the software side. His sons Drew and Jeremy joined the team, turning it into a proper family business.

And that's where we are now.
We're not some unicorn start-up claiming to "disrupt people ops" whilst chasing the next funding round. We're not a bloated enterprise vendor that takes 18 months to implement (if you're lucky) and charges you £500 every time you want to add a new dropdown option.
We're real people, building real solutions, trying to make life easier for your HR team.

What's next
We're going to keep doing what we're doing. Making the product better and helping more teams run smoother pay reviews
Drew has been particularly excited about a new dashboard feature he's working on (he keeps showing us screenshots), and we have some ideas for making the whole experience even more intuitive.
But we're not in any rush. Good software takes time, and we'd rather get it right than get it fast.
The crazy thing about PAYreview? It's now helping manage pay reviews for over 500,000 employees across companies like yours. From small startups to enterprise businesses.
What started as Paul's solution to a client's frustration has grown into something that's actually making people's work lives better. That still feels pretty amazing.
